| duomol stage set design | overview | |||||
The setting for the final scene of Bizet’s Opera: Carmen was abstracted into an ornate digital model, based on traditional Spanish Moorish domes and mocarabes. New techniques such as digital animation were investigated by asensio_mah architects as a means to investigate potentially novel effects in scenography. The digital model is animated according to the performances of the protagonists, deforming differentially as a result of the actions and exchange between the opera’s main characters. While these animated models become a register of the scenes heightening tension, the overall drama of the opera is exacerbated and amplified by the affective shapes, forms and patterns that emerge on the stage screen.
