Addressing the galleries situation on an urban corner, the proposal departs from the belief that a gesture is required that explicitly articulates this corner condition and binds the two street facades. This is achieved by introducing a new wall as an articulated corner, running along the length of the Prospect St façade, directing visitors to the main entry as well as turning the corner and inscribing a series of small “outdoor rooms” on the Bishop street side.

Jose Luis Sert´s use of patterns as a mode of structuring the buildings in Cambridge was adopted, in this proposal as a point of departure for addressing the issue of context. The proposal initiates a pattern that is materialized as a performative urban/architectural/display element.   Out of a seemingly outmoded and redundant medium such as paper (in light of the new media and mediums), new possibilities (and old ones) are exploited at the art interactive, to enliven the gallery. Novel uses for old mediums are investigated in response to the development of a face for a new media gallery.
